Bengaluru: The BJP’s attempt to lay siege to Vidhana Soudha this morning, demanding the resignation of Minister B. Nagendra, who is an accused in the Valmiki Development Corporation money laundering case, was foiled by the Police, with the detention of Opposition Leader in the State Assembly R. Ashok, State BJP Chief B.Y. Vijayendra and other top BJP leaders at the Vikasa Soudha entrance gate.

As thousands of BJP workers converged in the vicinity of Vidhana Soudha, the Police in a pre-emptive action, detained top party leaders and bundled  them to Police vans, even as BJP workers raised slogans against the Government, urging for the immediate resignation of Nagendra from the State Cabinet.

Earlier, BJP workers marched in a procession from Freedom Park to Vidhana Soudha, when they were prevented by the Police from entering premises.

The Opposition BJP-JD(S) combine had stalled the proceedings in both the Houses of the ongoing 10-day Monsoon Session of the State Legislature last week, seeking the resignation of ‘tainted’ Minister Nagendra. Session will end on Aug. 27. With no signs of the Opposition relenting on its demands, the Session is likely to get washed away without any meaningful discussion on key Bills and other matters.
