Mysuru: Demanding the arrest of culprits involved in the murder of two lawyers at Bengaluru and attempt to murder a lawyer at Gauribidanur recently, the city advocates boycotted Court proceedings yesterday and staged a demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust outside the District Law Courts Complex.
Addressing the protesting advocates, Mysore Bar Association President S. Lokesh strongly condemned the brutal murder of lawyers Manjunath of Whitefield and Sriram of Annapoorneshwarinagar in Bengaluru and attempt to murder senior lawyer Venkataramana Sannakki at Gauribidanur recently.
Maintaining that lawyers are an integral part of the justice system, Lokesh said that the right of citizens to get justice will be severely hurt if lawyers cannot function without fear.
“Though the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Advocates Act, 2023 is in force, it is a matter of concern that attacks on advocates have continued,” he said and demanded immediate arrest of culprits involved in the murder and attack on advocates and punish them as per law.
