City Lawyers boycott Court proceedings

October 4, 2017

Mysuru: City lawyers, expressing dissatisfaction over the step-motherly attitude in appointing Judges to the Karnataka High Court, today boycotted the Court proceedings in response to the State-wide call given by the Karnataka State Bar Council.

The lawyers abstained from Court proceedings as a mark of protest against the transfer of Justice Jayant Patel from Karnataka HC to Allahabad HC, which led to his resignation.

Justice Patel, the second senior most Judge of Karnataka HC, who was set to be elevated to the post of Chief Justice (CJ) as CJ Justice S.K. Mukherjee is due to retire on Oct. 9, was transferred to Allahabad HC, which is condemnable, said the lawyers and urged the Centre not to accept the resignation of Justice Patel.
