Lingayat is a separate religion and deserves minority status, says Prof. Chandrashekar Patil

October 22, 2017

Mysuru: Noted Kannada writer and literary critic Prof. Chandrashekar Patil, popular as Champa, has said that Lingayat is a separate religion and minority status must be accorded as per the Constitution and as per legal provisions to the religion.

Champa, who has been designated as the President of the three-day 83rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, was interacting with media persons at Pathrakarthara Bhavan yesterday. He said that till now there is no clarity on the word Hindu and as such Vedic religion can be attributed to it. Likewise, Lingayats and Veerashaivas are not branches of Hinduism and Lingayats deserve a separate status like Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, he opined.

He said that Veerashaivas are creating confusion over a separate community for Lingayats. “Rambhapuri Swamiji and Virakta Mutt pontiffs are in confusion. Hindu means Rightists and Lingayats mean Leftists, but, Veerashaiva is in between. There is no confusion between Rightists and Leftists. There is no clarity about Hindu community. I am proud to tell that I am a Lingayat. Lingayats must get minority status,” Patil added.

“Though I believe in the ideologies of Left wing, there should be an interaction between the Right and Left wings,” he said.

He blamed BJP State President B.S. Yeddyurappa and said that he had joined Yeddyurappa as he had floated Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP), a regional party. But he rejoined the BJP after the elections. He betrayed the voters.

State-wide tour

Champa said that he would tour the State urging the government to implement the resolutions passed at the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana. He said that many resolutions adopted at the meet are not taken seriously by the government. “The resolutions adopted at this meet will be implemented,” he said.

Champa said unlike other writers who presided over the meet, he will tour the State to make sure the resolutions become a reality. It is a custom that at the end of every Sammelana, resolutions are passed, but most of the time they are not implemented.

“The Kannada Sahitya Parishat is not a political body, but it is built and led by people. Hence the resolutions speak the mind of the people. It is the duty of the Parishat and the President of the meet to make sure the resolutions reach the government and force it to implement them,” he added.

On the development of Kannada literature on social media platforms, he said there was a need for diversity in expression. “Language is an integral part of humans and they can express their literary skills on any platform. If social media is stronger than the traditional literary form, it will sustain,” Prof. Chandrashekar Patil said.

Every Forward caste needs such “”intellectuals”” who will fight to declare their caste as backward! I really admire him! The only way in India to progress is not to work hard or fair, but to be a member of a backward caste! And if they all succeed then, all castes will be backword and that is same as caste less society! We can’t fight agaist reservation even after 65 years. Of independence. So,this may be best way to achieve it!
Just to remind you, Lingayats were considered OBC until Veerendra Patil”s era , then they fought to be decared as forward caste! Now, they have seen their blunder over decades of Congress rule and they want to go back!
While, this man wants his caste to be considered OBC, the really poor and helpless people in forward castes still get no support and trampled by these policies, he won’t have any voice agaist that! These are psedo intellectuals who want to hate upper caste people other then his own caste and he being in the upper caste majes it inconvenient!

these lingyats proposed by champas show there are 99 sub caste lingayats (15rh oct. vijayakarnataka) and all of them are scheduled casts converted to lingayats by basavanna. so I SUGGEST THOSE WHO ARE FIGHTING FOR LINGAYAT AS A SEPARATE DHARMA TO NAME THESE 999 SUBCASTS AS SCCONVERTED LINGAYAT DHARMA AND LET THEM SAIL WITH SC/ST. ALL THEIR NAMES HAVE INCLUDING THOSE WHO ARE SUPPORRING MATE MAHADEVI HAVE THEIR SURNAME WITH CHAMMARA, MADIVALARU, HOLEYA,AGASA LINGAYAT, AMBIGA LINGAATA, BOVI LINGAYATA, LINGYAATAA BADIGERA, LINGAYATA BALESHETTARU, LINGAYATA GANIGA, LINGAYAT HADAPADA, LINFAYAT KUMBARA, LINGAYAT KURUBARU, NOBAA LINGAYAT, LINGAYAT DOHARA, LINGAYAT TAMMADIGARU, LINGAYAT BILIJEDARU ETC,. THEN WHO ARE THESE LINGAYATS BELONGS TO . THEY SHOULD NOT CALL AS LINGAYATS BUT SC CONVERTED LINGAYATS AND FORM A SEPARATE DHARMA AS SC CONVERRTED LINGAYAT DHARMA. LEAVE VEERASHAIVAS WHO ARE REAL LINGAYATS.

THOSE ARE FIGHTING FOR SEPARATE LINGAYAT DHARMA – IN REALITY ARE NOT AT LINGAYATS BUT CONVERTED BY BASAVANNA – A MISCHIEF HAPPENED THEN. SO IT IS MOST APPROPRITE THEY MUST HAVE CALLED CONVERTED LINGAYAT DHARMA.

Basavanna , a Brahmin in by birth , thought he was uplifting the backword castes like SC/ST and converted them to Lingayat! He did not realize, being an SC,ST by birth today is a gateway to heaven in modern India and can take you to places that even the God given talent can not! So, all these people are realizing that Basavanna ruined their bright future like medical seat for third class kid or an IAS for just being a below average candidate! So, today people do not want to get rid of the backwardness tag. Instead everyone wants to be a member of backword caste!
Having a son or daughter in forward caste is a lot if pressure! The child has to be competitive, study well, work hard still no gaurantee that he or she will succeed! If you are backword caste, you are genetically predisposed to succeed!

      • dr.m.shanthakumar says:

THE PRESENT CRISIS IS DUE TO THE WRONG PATH OF BASAVANNA AND HE SPOILED THE EARLIER LINGAYAT RELIGION. HE IS THE ROOT CAUSE FOR TODAYS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LINGYAT AND VEERSHAIVAS.

LET ALL THOSE WHO ARE FOR LINGAYAT MOVE FOR A SEPARTE DHRMA : ” SCHELUED DONVERTED DLINGYAT DHARMA AND LET ALL THESOSE WHO HAD CONVERTED TO BY BSAVANNA SHGHOULD RENOUNCE LINGAYAT TAG. LET THEM STICK TO THEIR ORIGINAL PROFESSIONS LIKE, CHAMMARA, MADIWALARU, ETC.,
EVEN THER IS ONE SWAMIJI MADIWVALA SWAMIJI SHOULD QUI T HIS MUT AS HE IS NOT A LINGAYAT ORIGINALLY.
