Mysuru: A foreigner was so impressed by a park in the city that he has painted its walls and inner areas out of his own money. He came to the city to learn yoga and was here for over three months. He has now returned to his country but has left his mark in Mysuru by beautifying the park.
This is the story of Dusan Drhlik from Buckingham, who had come to Mysuru to learn yoga as he had heard about yoga’s healing properties. A resident of Second Woodhill Court, Woodside Road in Buckinghamshire in the United Kingdom, Dusan stayed at Gokulam for over three months as he had enrolled at a yoga school for a short-term course.
He used to visit the Golden Jubilee Park in Gokulam First Stage, Fifth Cross near Shanimahatma Temple. So impressed was he with the park and its breezy environment, Dusan decided to paint its walls and the children’s play area including the equipment that the children used to play.
A painter by profession, he decided to do his bit to the city. He purchased the required paints and brushes and got on to the job. First he painted the boundary walls and grills of the park and next he painted the interiors. It took five days for him to complete the works.
Dressed in clothes that had paint stains, Dusan used to come to the park in the morning after his yoga session and would not leave the place before he concluded painting one particular stretch by evening.
“Often I came to the park and I liked the surroundings, especially its breezy surroundings. It is an ideal place to walk. I thought about beautifying the park in the area that has taught me basic yoga and I decided to paint as I am a painter by profession,” Dusan said.
Seeing a foreigner painting the walls of the park, a few residents felicitated him.
“Dusan has set an example for all of us to keep our surroundings clean. His act of painting the Golden Jubilee Park at a time when Mysuru is gearing up to top the Swachh Survekshan rankings is really appreciable,” said Bharat, a resident of Gokulam.

Another resident Prakash said that Dusan, had earned a special place in the hearts of Gokulam residents, especially the morning and evening walkers who can now stroll inside the park amidst beautiful walls and green surroundings.
Dusan has left to Buckinghamshire and is expected to return to the city in the next couple of months for another session of yoga.
So a foreigner has to come to the city and show how to keep it beautiful. No wonder cities in the west are clean beautiful, so that our film industry shoots their songs…
