Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation presented a surplus Budget of Rs.7.07 crore. The Budget for the financial year 2018-19 was presented by Finance and Taxation Standing Committee Chairman K.P. Ashwini at Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Hall in the MCC premises this morning.
The Budget was tabled under the chairmanship of Mayor B. Bhagyavathi. The size of the Budget is Rs.712.54 crore, with an opening balance of Rs. 147.48 crore. The Budget expects revenue of Rs. 565.05 crore as against an expenditure of Rs.705.47 crore, leaving the MCC with a surplus of Rs.7.07 crore.
Some of the highlights of the Budget include setting aside Rs.20.01 crore for the development of 100 parks out of the 400 parks in the city under Green City project under the Social Forestry. The Corporation has completed 155 years last year and it plans to celebrate the anniversary this year and Rs.15 lakh has been set aside for this purpose.
Revenue of Rs.9.825 crore is expected from building licence fee, ground rent, digging fee, maintenance fee, inspection fee, water connection fee, issuance of completion reports, fine and penalty, underground drainage fee and other plan fees. Rs.5 crore is expected to be generated from trade licence fee and Rs. 3.71 crore from the rents of the commercial complexes and markets belonging to the MCC and Garuda Mall ground rent.
The Budget also provides for e-toilets and bathrooms in prominent places in the city for Pourakarmikas apart from bringing them under insurance cover. For effective traffic management, the Corporation has earmarked Rs.100 crore to be given to the Police department. It has also planned to construct two swimming pools in Chamaraja and N.R. Constituencies for which Rs. 1 crore has been set aside.
The existing manholes will be replaced by modern HDPE manholes and double wall corrugated HDPE pipes will replace the existing pipes and Rs. 39 crore has been earmarked for the purpose.
After the Budget was presented, Corporator Shaukat Pasha of the Congress wondered why the Corporation was intended on giving Rs. 100 crore to the Police Department for effective traffic management when the department itself had its own funds for the purpose.
He also pointed out that under the Green City project, nearly 300 parks are lying in a state of neglect and none of them have any trees planted under the Social Forestry scheme. Besides, he said the MCC owes nearly Rs.24 crore to the contractors for the various works undertaken by them.
Rs. 2 crore for Sports Club
A new Sports Club will be constructed for the Corporators, officials and employees to unwind and relax from their hectic schedule. Rs. 2 cr. has been set aside for the purpose.
Two nominated Corporators take oath
Mysuru, Feb. 27- Two recently nominated Corporators R. Dinesh Koppal and R. Prakash Kumar took oath at the Council Hall this morning in the presence of Mayor B. Bhagyavathi and other corporators.
Before the budget meeting began, tributes were paid to MLA and farmer leader K.S. Puttannaiah who passed away recently.
Later, some of the Congress Corporators protested against Mayor Bhagyavathi asking her to step down as she had violated the anti-defection law.
A few others also staged a dharna at the MCC main gate demanding the Mayor’s resignation.
Most of the parks are not maintained in the city, last year park in front of Yoganarasimhaswamy temple was redone spending lots of money. No comments on the redoing of the park. The sad story is after contracted period it was not maintained by the authorities responsible. Over grown grass, weedy lawns, lack of cleanliness, walk ay is full of dried leaves causing slippery. withering plants due to non watering. The drip irrigation which was installed appears broken at many places. Stray dogs have become common and chase childern and walker.
The toilet built is smelly, highly infectious, no water, no light.
Evenings there will be hardly any lights. The light put on the temple road side is not focused.
