Awareness on ‘TB Prevention, detection and treatment’ at Mission Hospital

Mysuru: Karnataka State Tuberculosis Association, Bengaluru, in association with District Tuberculosis Centre and CSI Holdsworth Memorial (Mission) Hospital, Mysuru, had organised a campaign to create awareness on “TB prevention, detection and treatment” recently as part of Anti-Tuberculosis Week from Feb.17 to 23 and to coincide with National Tuberculosis Programme.

Dr. G.M. Vamadeva, Consultant Physician, Mission Hospital, who took initiative in organising the programme, provided brief introduction about the event.

The Medical, Paramedical, Nursing staff and students participated in this awareness programme. Director of  Mission Hospital Dr. J. Suguna Shanthi inaugurated the programme.  

Dr. Suvarna, District Tuberculosis Officer, DTC, Mysuru, who was the chief guest, highlighted the importance of prevention, detection and treatment of  Tuberculosis.

  • Tuberculosis including Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis testing and diagnoses is done at three places — PKTB, K.R. Hospital,  Mysuru and Government Hospital, Hunsur — through a specialised diagnostic testing tool named CBNAAT (Cartridge- Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) free of cost.
  • DOTS therapy is revised as Daily Regimen started  from Oct.23, 2017 in Mysuru.
  • Nodal Drug Resistance TB Centre is located at PKTB premises providing treatment for drug resistance Tuberculosis.
  • Provider incentives of Rs.1,000 (for notification Rs.500 and Outcome Rs.500) for notification per TB patient and for reporting treatment outcome to private practitioners/ pharmacist, patients and any other informer.

Dr. Suvarna, DTO, sensitised the gathering, about main aim of the National TB Programme, that is “UNITE TO END TB” by 2025 as per Government of India and WHO by 2035. In order to achieve the Public Private Partnership and to join hands with the vision to end TB, it is the responsibility of the public, practitioners; NGOs and Community to strive hard and involve themselves to stop this life threatening disease.

Dr. Virupaksha, Medical Superintendent, TB Sanatorium  screened a short film and gave a presentation on prevention, detection and the treatment of TB and educated on various facilities available in diagnosing and treating MDR and XDR TB.

During the National TB Programme, Dr. Reuben Prakash, Deputy Director,  Vincent Palanna, Administrative Officer, Dr. Uttamanand,  Physician, Vinolia Raj, Principal CON, Sangeetha, Nursing Superintendent, M. Prathibha, SNA Advisor, CSI Holdsworth Memorial Hospital, were present on this occasion.
