Sri Purandara Sri Tyagaraja Aradhanotsava and the 31st Annual Day of Sri Tyagaraja Sangeeta Sabha Charitable Trust, Mysuru, was held recently.
Karnatak Classical Music concerts by senior artistes and budding talents were organised daily from Feb.4 to 10 at various extensions of Mysuru city.
Vid. Harini Ramesh (vocal), Vid. Rao Sharath (vocal), Vid. H.S. Srilakshmi (veena), Prithvi, Shruthi and Amogh (violin trio), Vid. Dr. C.A. Sridhar (flute), Vid. Rajashree Joseyar (vocal), Vid. R. K. Raghavan (veena) and Vid. N. Anantha Padmanabha Rao (vocal) performed along with accompaniments in the week-long music festival. On Feb.11, a grand procession of the portraits of Saints Sri Tyagaraja and Sri Purandaradasa was taken out in V.V. Mohalla in ‘Ooncha vruthi’ with vocalists and instrumentalists performing along with.
On this occasion, five eminent senior persons were honoured for their contribution to the field of Karnatak music. Vid. N. Anantha Padmanabha Rao, Benagaluru (vocal), Vid. V. Ramesh, Bethamangala (Nadaswara), Vid. M.S.Jayaram, Mysuru (Mridanga), Vid. A.V. Usha, Mysuru (vocal), M.L. Krishnaswamy, Mysuru (Art Patron and SOM columnist) were awarded the title ‘Kala Deepti.’
Art patron, K.V. Murthy presided over the function and Swami Athmajnanandaji, President, Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru, graced the occasion.
The programme culminated in a large number of senior musicians and music students paying their tribute to the great Saints by singing the ‘Pancharatna kritis’ of Saint Tyagaraja in ‘Goshti Gayana.’ The programme was well-attended by musicians and music lovers as well.
