In a tragic incident, a woman who was crossing the road was killed when a car rammed into her at Basavanapura village in Vijayanagar 4th Stage yesterday night.

The victim has been identified as Puttarajamma (50), wife of late Gurumurthy, a resident of Dasanakoppal on Bogadi Road.

It is reported that Puttarajamma on Saturday night at about 8 pm, was crossing the road to go to her house when a speeding car (KA 09 A6834) rammed into her, injuring her seriously. Puttarajamma, breathed her last while being shifted to a hospital.

The villagers, who witnessed the accident, caught hold of the driver and beat him black and blue before handing him over to the Police. The car driver has been admitted to a hospital.  

Yelwal Police, who have registered a case in this regard, have seized the car and are investigating.
