A Corporator worthy of emulation

April 27, 2021

Sir,

I was pleasantly surprised when our Corporator Dr. G. Roopa formed a WhatsApp group with the residents of Ward No. 53, comprising Alanahalli and parts of Siddarthanagar and Kurubarahalli, as members. Everyday, scores of complaints pour into the group.

Piling up of fallen dry leaves, leakages in sewerage and water lines, clogged stormwater drain, mosquito menace, dangling tree branches touching the live electric lines, replacement of fused streetlights, non-clearance of garbage and property tax issues are a few of the many grievances sent to the group by the residents (many a time with photographs of the issues being faced).

Astonishingly, every complaint is being promptly attended to by the modest and unpretentious Corporator. She is a dedicated lady with great concern for the welfare of the residents.

The moment a complaint is made in the group, she immediately responds and springs into action. What is even more praiseworthy is that she meticulously reports in the group soon after resolving an issue.

She also regularly alerts the residents in respect of precautionary measures towards Covid-19 besides giving details about vaccination and vaccination centres.

She is ably supported by her husband Yogesh (Babu) and her brother Madhusudhan. I have often seen Babu himself watering the plants and lawns of parks in the Ward and also personally supervising various remedial measures.

I am not aware of any other ward having a similar WhatsApp group. If not, this is a novel idea of getting in direct contact with the ward-residents and resolving their issues. Such sincere public servants richly deserve everyone’s approbation and adulation.
