A ‘special’ nature trail

Mysuru: Rotaract Mysore Midtown SBRR Mahajana’s First Grade College, in association with Tiger Adventure Foundation (TAF), conducted a nature awareness trail for the speech and hearing impaired and visually challenged youths of the Industrial Training Centre of National Association for the Blind, Yadavagiri, at Kukkarahalli Lake in city recently.

Mohan Kumar Mulepetlu, renowned Naturalist of Flame of the Forest, Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh, was the resource person.

The speech and hearing impaired students were shown different species of the birds, flora and fauna which were explained to the youths by Naturalist Mohan Kumar and the same was interpreted to the students in sign language by Sriram and Narasimharaju. The visually challenged youths were made to touch the tree and leaves and were made to feel texture along with different sounds of the birds were explained.

About 19 speech and hearing impaired and six visually challenged youths and three Interpreters and one visually challenged instructor participated in the programme.

Rtr. Gokul and Rtr. Samhitha Danthi of Rotaract Mahajana First Grade College, coordinated the programme. Others present on the occasion were Rtn. PHF DSD Solanki, Chairman, TAF and Srinivas Manager, Industrial Training Centre of National Association for the Blind, Yadavagiri, Mysuru.
