Mysuru: The Academic Council of the University of Mysore at its meeting this morning, approved giving permission to allow intake of more students for the next academic year (2018-19), at some Government Colleges, only after taking an undertaking from the Principals concerned of providing basic facilities to students at these colleges.
Member of the University of Mysore Education Committee Ramachandregowda suggested that letters from Principals of Government Colleges concerned to provide basic facilities in their colleges could be taken and allow the colleges to admit more students. This suggestion was approved at the meeting.
He was speaking after Dr. Lingaraja Gandhi, Director of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board (PMEB), University of Mysore said that the Local Investigation Committee (LIC) had rejected the proposals of some colleges which had sought intake of more students for the academic year 2017-18.
Dr. Gandhi said that poor students could pursue their education if more students were admitted and had sought the approval to give permission for more intake of students. While some members opposed saying that permission cannot be given as these colleges lacked basic facilities, Ramachandregowda gave the above suggestion which was approved at the meeting.
Earlier, University of Mysore Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Mane said that members of the Review Committee led by its Chairman N.R. Shetty, would be in city on May 26 and 27 to collect certain information.
He said that an incentive of Rs. 50,000 would be given to Dr. Lingaraja Gandhi and his team which provided necessary information to the Ranking Committee that helped the University of Mysore secure a rank.
Meanwhile, Varsity Commerce Department Dean Prof. Ayesha accused the College Development Council (CDC) of not informing them about the inspection by LIC to her department as the rule says that the presence of department heads concerned is compulsory during such inspections. She was joined by Education Department Dean Prof. Ningamma, who voiced the same.
Prof. Rajanna, Registrar (Administration) of Mysore Varsity said that he would look into the matter and see that it was not repeated.
