Activist alleges Ashraya land scam in city

April 21, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: Coming up with disclosure of yet another land scam in the city, RTI Activist Snehamayi Krishna has alleged that the MCC officials have illegally sold a land meant for Ashraya Housing Scheme to others. Addressing a press meet on Saturday, Snehamayi Krishna said that the Ashraya land in question was at Rammanahalli village in Kasaba hobli of the taluk.

“ The officials, apart from sanctioning sites in 10 guntas of Ashraya land ordered by a Court, have also sold an additional 20 guntas of land illegally, which smells of a scam. The State Government had purchased  the said land between 2003 and 2005 in Survey No.259/3 of Rammanahalli in Mysuru, for distributing Ashraya sites among the poor.”

“The Sale Deed in respect of the purchase made was registered on Mar. 19, 2005. Later on, one Sundramma, daughter of Kenchaiah, the original land owner who had sold the land, filed a petition in the Court seeking her share in the deal,” he said.

“The Court, which heard Sundramma’s plea, ordered the Government to part with 10 guntas of land to her, while the rest 20 guntas of land stayed with the Government. However, the officials, hiding this fact from the Government, prepared a false map mentioning that the  20 guntas of land too belonged to the land owner Kenchaiah. Subsequently, the officials issued documents to  Chowdamma and her children and Syed Faizal. Later on,  these persons sold the land to two others,” he claimed.

Accusing the MCC and Rammanahalli Town Panchayat officials of failing to protect and secure the said land purchased by the Government for Ashraya Scheme, Krishna said, he has written a letter in this regard to the Mysuru Regional Commissioner seeking action on the issue.
