Actor Prakash Rai rules out joining politics

February 26, 2018

Mysuru:  Multi-lingual film actor Prakash Rai has categorically stated that he would neither enter politics nor was he in favour or opposing any party. His differences were only ideological and hence he opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Right Wing groups.

He was speaking at an interaction session organised by the Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) at its premises here this morning. He said that though some of his statements looked provocative, he was not directing it against any party or individual.

Rai wondered how a responsible Union Minister holding charge of Skill Development could talk about wiping out a community or another MP make an irresponsible statement about his (Rai) personal life.

Asked why he was not opposing either the Congress or the Left, Rai replied that first he wanted answers for all the ills plaguing the country at present and once he gets an answer, he was ready with more questions for the Congress and the Left.

On what aspect of Modi he appreciated and what he did not like about Siddharamaiah, Rai said that the Swachh Bharat mission launched by Prime Minister Modi was very laudable. However, he pointed out that the way it was being implemented was a lot to be desired as 70 per cent of the toilets each built with Rs.12,000 provided by the government has been turned into godowns.

The recent incident of Mohammad Nalpad Haris, son of MLA N.A. Haris who had beaten up a youth in a pub was a real eye-opener for him, he said. “I had attended a function in the area where Mohammad Nalpad was also present. People from all faiths were present in that function and the young man had donated Rs. 2 lakh for social service. I had lauded his gesture. But I was shocked and disappointed to learn that the same boy turned out to be a monster,” he regretted.

MDJA President C.K. Mahendra, Vice-President Subramanya, Gen. Secretary K.J. Lokesh Babu, City Secretary Raghavendra and others were present.
