Adivasis to stage protest tomorrow

March 19, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking fulfilment of various demands which chiefly included implementation of Adivasi Forest Rights and issuance of Land Rights, Adivasis, under the banner of Karnataka Dalita Chaluvali Navanirmana Vedike, will stage a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on Mar. 20.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, Vedike Founder Hariharanandaswamy said that the demonstration will be themed ‘Namma Bhoomi, Namma Hakku.’

Urging that amendments should be brought to PTCL Act (Prohibition of Transfer of Certain Lands Act, 1978), he  demanded the Government to give revenue records to Adivasis who have been cultivating lands for decades. Seeking to make amendments to PTCL Act which is a hurdle for legal sale of Dalit land holdings, he urged the Government to issue Forest Dwelling Rights to 219 Haadis and 164 Jenukuruba Haadis of the district.
