After Siddaramaiah, Dhawan Rakesh?

July 7, 2026

Bengaluru: Former CM Siddaramaiah has begun preparations to introduce his grandson, Dhawan Rakesh Siddaramaiah, to active politics.

With Siddaramaiah reportedly planning to step away from electoral politics, the veteran Congress leader is said to be preparing Dhawan to succeed him in his Varuna Constituency.

According to party sources, Siddaramaiah has drawn up a roadmap to strengthen his grandson’s political foundation ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. Siddaramaiah is keen to fulfil the political aspirations of his late son, Rakesh Siddaramaiah, through Dhawan.

He has arranged for a special tutor to train Dhawan in spoken and written Kannada while also introducing him to the basics of politics. Political mentors and subject experts have also reportedly been engaged to guide him.

Apart from formal training, Siddaramaiah and his wife, Parvathi, are personally spending time with Dhawan, interacting with him through discussions, studies and family activities, while sharing their understanding of society, governance and public life.

Dhawan studied at the Canadian International School near Yelahanka in Bengaluru, an institution attended by children of VVIPs. According to sources, his schooling offered limited exposure to Kannada. He is currently in the final year of his Law degree at the National Law School of India University.

To address the language gap, Siddaramaiah is said to be focusing on improving Dhawan’s Kannada proficiency alongside his political grooming.

After completing his Law degree, Dhawan is expected to spend about a year engaging with Varuna voters before being projected as the  party’s candidate.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah’s younger son and Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah is said to have shown limited interest in electoral politics.  However, if he decides to contest, the Chamundeshwari Constituency is being considered.
