Mysuru: With an objective of promoting construction of farm ponds (Krishi Honda) under Krishi Bhagya, Agriculture Minister Krishna Byregowda visited Mavinahalli village in Jayapura Hobli of the taluk yesterday morning.
The Minister visited the farmland of agriculturist Shivannegowda in the village and offered bagina to the farm pond.
Shivannegowda, who had constructed the farm pond (10 mts length and 3 mts deep) in his 2 acre 30 guntas of agricultural land, under Krishi Bhagya scheme in 2015-16, became a successful farmer growing vegetables and ragi out of the water stored in the pond, even when the rains had failed.
Speaking after inspecting the pond, Krishna Byregowda explained the importance of Krishi Hondas at a time when ground water level was shrinking with each passing day.
The Minister further said that the farmers should take advantage of the State Government’s Krishi Bhagya scheme and construct such ponds as they are a boon for farming in rain-dependent areas.
Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Satish, Additional Director of Agriculture Dr. Gangappa and other officials accompanied the Minister.
