Mysuru: The Bilikere Police have arrested the husband and in-laws of Thejaswini who died under mysterious circumstances yesterday. The arrested have been identified as Raghavendra and his father Sathyanarayana of Rangaianakoppalu and his wife whose name has not been revealed by the Police. Search is on for the Thejaswini’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

It may be recalled here that 25-year-old Thejaswini died at her home at Rangaianakoppalu yesterday and her husband 27-year-old Raghavendra had brought her to a private hospital on Kalidasa Road. He told the doctors that his wife had sustained head injuries after she fell inside the house and became unconscious.

Thejaswini, however, died after some time and Raghavendra along with his parents had quietly left the hospital. Enraged over the death, Thejaswini’s parents and relatives staged a flash protest in front of the hospital demanding the immediate arrest of Raghavendra and his parents.

The parents alleged that their daughter has been murdered by her husband for dowry. They said that their daughter, an M.Tech graduate, wanted to marry a boy who loved agriculture. Accordingly, she was given in a marriage to Raghavendra, an agriculturist by profession. Her dreams of a good life, however, were shattered as Raghavendra began torturing her for dowry.

They said that at the time of marriage, over Rs. 20 lakh was spent and Raghavendra was demanding a car. Thejaswini was assaulted a couple of times and on Thursday too, Raghavendra had beaten her up which caused her death, they alleged. They said that Raghavendra’s parents and sister and brother-in-law too pestered her to bring money and were instigating Raghavendra to torture her.

Relatives who protested in front of the hospital yesterday refused to take the dead body for cremation and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits. Jayalakshmipuram Police rushed to the spot and informed their counterparts at Bilikere who booked a case based on the complaint given by Thejaswini’s parents.

Bilikere Police who had launched a search for Raghavendra and his parents arrested them late last evening. Thejaswini’s body was taken to her native near H.D. Kote and cremated.
