Accused faces charges under POCSO Act

Nanjangud: A 27-year-old man was sent to judicial custody under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act after he was arrested on charges of kidnapping a minor girl and keeping her under house arrest.

The accused is Balu, a construction labourer and a resident of Golur village in the taluk.

About two years ago, accused Balu had kidnapped a minor girl from a village in the taluk and the girl’s father had lodged a complaint at Nanjangud Rural Police Station. The accused was hoodwinking the Cops since then and had gone absconding.

But about two months ago, accused Balu had come to Chamalapura and had taken a house on rent, where he had kept the minor girl in illegal confinement.

Based on a tip-off, the Police arrested Balu on Saturday and produced him before a Court, which remanded him to judicial custody, according to Circle Inspector Rajashekar.
