The recent nationwide flood devastation is yet green (nay red) in my memory. Normal life got paralysed, rendering many homeless. Nanjangud too was prey to this nature’s fury that literally cut off the road link to the town for almost a week, as Kapila river swell to the brim and touched the road near Mallanamoole, and traffic got diverted.

Last year too saw similar situation. As the rail/ road bridges were slightly above the water level, vehicle movement was not affected on this part, but traffic had to be diverted as the road between Chikkayana Chatra village and Basavanapura Gate is at a low level and river water naturally inundated this stretch.

As floods recur each year, to ensure uninterrupted vehicle flow without diversion/disruption, I have a suggestion to the concerned. A road may be laid opposite the Prasanna Nanjundeshwara temple in Chikkayana Chatra, adjoining the Rampur canal, continue till the Mallanamoole Swamiji’s bungalow overlooking the Mutt building (at an altitude than the present), terminate it at the Basavanapura gate (near Kabini bridge) to join the NH-766. This would be ideal and saves lot of fuel and time if circuitous route taken. Will the District Administration look into this?
