Anti-Human Trafficking Unit set up in city

Mysore/Mysuru: In a bid to ensure safety of vulnerable women and children, City Police have set up an Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) in city.

City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta inaugurated the  re-structured Unit at the Women’s Police Station at Nehru Circle on Ashoka Road yesterday. 

Later, speaking to press-persons, Dr. Chandragupta said that the unit will function under Crime and Traffic Wing of the City Police. Pointing out that the unit will work in co-ordination with the District Child Protection Unit, Child Development Planning Office, Women and Child Development Department and Labour Department, he said that the Anti Human trafficking Unit has been sanctioned out of Nirbhaya funds and the working of the unit has been restructured in accordance with the present requirements.

He further said that the unit will address anti-human trafficking, women and child safety, child labour, bonded labour and such other issues concerning the safety and protection of  vulnerable women and children. 

Also, the unit will take up investigation of cases where missing children have remained untraced even after four months of complaint at other Civil Police Stations, he added.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna, Devaraja Sub-Division ACP M.N. Shashidhar, Women’s Police Station Inspector V.D. Mamatha and other Police personnel    were present.
