Anti-Poaching Camp watcher found dead in Veeranahosalli

April 18, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Mahadeva Nayaka, an Anti-Poaching Camp watcher, was found dead in Gurugala Kere tank in Veeranahosalli Range of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve yesterday.

The 48-year-old was on night shift elephant driving duty along with three other staff on Thursday. While driving wild elephants into the forest, he got separated from the elephant driving team, sources said.

As it was late on Thursday night, it was not possible to trace him and next morning (Friday), his body was found floating in the lake, sources added. Forest officials suspect that Mahadeva Nayaka might have been attacked by a wild elephant.

Hunsur Town Police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating. Mortal remains of Mahadeva Nayaka will be handed over to his family after the post-mortem. Mahadeva Nayaka leaves behind his parents Raju Nayaka and Gowri Bai, wife Chennaji Bai, sons Mohan and Manu Nayaka and a host of relatives and friends.
