Sir,
This is in response to our former Mayor Modamani’s concern and advice to MCC officials about building violations published in Star of Mysore dated Dec. 20, 2022. Her concern is highly appreciated but the MCC officials are neither serious nor vigilant. Also, they have not learnt any lessons from the tragic death of retd. IB Officer.
We would like to share our recent experience in this regard. We, the 36 residents of Chamundeshwari Apartment, No. 3121/1, 13th Cross, V.V. Mohalla, submitted a representation in person to the Assistant Commissioner (AC), Zone-4 MCC, under intimation to the Commissioner, MCC, Mysuru, on 24.11.2022 to take immediate action to raze the portion of our neighbouring building which is old and in a dilapidated condition constructed long back without leaving offsets and as per norms of construction rules laid down by the MCC.
This portion of the building is posing a serious threat to lives and property of residents of the apartment. The AC assured that she will visit the site along with the engineer and initiate proper action without any delay. When we contacted the AC over the phone after 2 days, we were told that she will depute an MCC engineer and ask him to submit the report.
Incidentally, the engineer concerned Ramana was with AC madam and she asked us to speak to him. When we briefed him about the problem, he replied very casually and harshly in front of AC stating that he has a lot of other work to do and would visit site when he gets the time.
Meanwhile, the neighbouring building owner started patch work by chipping off old plastering of the mud wall and re-plastered this dilapidated portion instead of razing it. Till date, no MCC official has visited the spot nor initiated any action in this regard. God save us!
