Associations seek special package, vaccination drive

Mysore/Mysuru: Several organisations have submitted memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bagadi Gautham in support of their various demands here recently.

As lockdown is in force and protests not allowed by the Police, leaders of various organisations submitted memorandums to the DC.

Zakeer Husen, President of Devaraj Urs Prathime Pratishtapana Samiti, has urged the State Government to hold house-to-house free vaccination campaign in rural areas in the wake of surge in Corona positive cases in villages. The increase in number of deaths in rural areas due to Covid-19 has panicked people.

Since villagers were not intelligent enough to upload their details in the CoWIN App, the District Administration must do on-the-spot registration of names and free vaccination to people near their doorsteps. Since villagers are busy with the onset of monsoon, it will be good if the vaccination was done in their villages than asking them to go to nearby vaccination booths, he said.

Samiti Working President M. Chandrashekar, progressive thinker and writer, Prof. K.S. Bhagwan, former Mayor Purushotham and others were  present.

Suitable package:  Meanwhile, members of Left parties like CPI (M), CPI, SUCI (C), CPI (ML), AIFB, RPI and SI also submitted a memorandum to the DC seeking a suitable package for Covid-19 hit people.

In a press release, they said thousands of people have lost jobs due to stoppage of economic activities. On top of it, there is an acute shortage of medicine, bed, oxygen and vaccine owing to medical mafia and bed blocking.

The Government must institute an inquiry and take action on legislators who were involved in the scams. The two packages worth Rs. 1,423 crore announced by Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa were not sufficient as only five lakh people would benefit as against the total population of 6.5 crore.

They also urged the Government to give a special cash package of Rs. 10,000 to each poor family and foods kits on behalf of both the State and the Union Governments. The signatories included  U. Basavaraj, Secretary, CPI(M), Saathi Sundaresh, Secretary, CPI, K. Uma, Secretary, SUCI(C), Clifton D. Rozario, Secretary, CPI (ML), G.R. Shivashankar, Secretary, AIFB, Chamara Maali Patil, Secretary, Swaraj India and Mohan Raj, President, RPI.
