At last, Sayyaji Rao Road Subway open to public

July 11, 2018

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) at last swung into action and took up the repair works of the subway built at the junction of Dhanvantri Road and Sayyaji Rao Road near Bata Showroom and completed it in less than a week. Now, the pedestrians are using it to cross the road safely.

It may be recalled that SOM had carried a news item titled “Subway on Sayyaji Rao Road in dangerous condition” on July 2.

MCC took up the work the very next day after the MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha, Deputy Mayor Indira Mahesh, MCC Executive Engineer Jadhav, Vani Vilas Water Works Executive Engineer Anand and Development officer visited the spot.

The ugly, unimaginative and rarely used subway built here was lying in a dangerous condition. The MCC Commissioner, following a hue and cry by the public, had promised to open the subway for the public soon.

Accordingly, the water logging in the subway has been cleared though there are still some reminiscent of it, the leaking pipes have been repaired and the whole place cleaned.

A security guard Mahadevappa has also been deputed at the place to see that anti-social elements do not harass the public. The pedestrians now are using the subway.

The only issue is that the MCC authorities must see to it that the subway is always   maintained in a clean and proper manner so that people can use it safely.

Otherwise, the purpose for which it is built is defeated, as had been seen before with the officials turning a blind eye to the problems in spite of repeated complaints personally and through the media.
