Mysuru: The city’s 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to jail besides imposing a fine, after he was found guilty of trying to murder a man from whom he had taken a loan.
The Congress leader who was sentenced is M.K. Ashok. Ashok had taken a loan of Rs. 6.5 lakh from one Sandeep and had asked the later to come to Nehru Circle on May 30, 2016. When Sandeep came to the spot and demanded his money, Ashok, who asked Sandeep whether he had any proof that he had given him the money, assaulted Sandeep and tried to run over Sandeep in his car. As Sandeep held on to the car’s bonnet, Ashok rammed the car to an electric pole in a bid to kill him.
The then Lashkar Inspector H.M. Kantharaju, who had registered a case, conducted an investigation and had submitted a chargesheet to the Court.
Judge Gururaj Somakkalavar, who heard the arguments from both sides, found Ashok guilty and sentenced him to one-month simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 500 under IPC Section 504. He was also sentenced to two months imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,000 under Column 323 and was also awarded three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000 under Column 307.
Public Prosecutor B.E. Yogeshwara argued on behalf of the Government.
