Attempt to murder: Three including two women get five years imprisonment

November 28, 2019

Mysuru: Hunsur’s Eighth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced three persons including two women for attempting to murder a man in 2015. They are 37-year-old Kumar, his wife 32-year-old Manjula and another woman 40-year-old Puttammanni, residents of Annur Hosahalli village in H.D. Kote taluk.

Details: On May 12, 2015, one Mahadevappa, owner of the land in Survey No.33 at Annur Hosahalli, was planting tobacco saplings when one Chandru, his brother Kumar, Kumar’s wife Manjula and Puttammanni, carrying lethal weapons, trespassed and picked up a fight saying that the land belonged to them.

During the fight, Puttammanni threw chilly powder into the eyes of Mahadevappa and the remaining persons assaulted Mahadevappa with lethal weapons.

Following a complaint, H.D. Kote Police, who had registered a case, arrested four persons including the two women and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court. As Chandru passed away while on trial, enquiry was conducted against the remaining three persons.

Judge B. Madhusudan, who heard the arguments from both sides, opined that the victim would have lost his life if he was not admitted to the hospital on time and awarded five years jail to the three accused besides imposing a penalty of Rs.10,000 each besides asking the three accused to give Rs.20,000 to the victim as compensation.

Judge Madhusudan also asked the victim, who had underwent 23 days treatment as an inpatient at JSS Hospital in Mysuru, to claim the medical expenses from the Legal Services Committee by submitting an application.

In-charge Public Prosecutor Ajith Kumar D. Hemmige argued on behalf of the Government.
