‘Students with knowledge of Lean Practices can take a leap in career path’

Mysuru: The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, had organised a two-day workshop on ‘Ideas for Successful Implementation of Lean Practices in Manufacturing Sector’ recently.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Manjunath, Lean Consultant, Bengaluru, who interacted with the students on how lean practices drive the industry, with a focus on lean practices/management as a strategic initiative. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Manjunath said, “Lean Techniques have been adopted by more than 72% of machine shops across the country and this has dramatically increased the productivity while continuing to remove wasteful practices and contribute to the bottom line. There is increased awareness about the Quality Concepts among diverse groups today which is a good sign; as TPM, Lean Practices and Quality improvement forms the basis for excellence in any industry and students equipped with this knowledge can leap in their career path.”

The afternoon session was taken over by K. Amul Chandra, Lean Champion and Expert Corporate Trainer, ACE Designers, Bengaluru.  He stressed on the importance of time management, self-discipline and habit formation in order to excel in lean practices. 

Dr. K.M. Subbaiah, Professor & Head, Dept. of Industrial & Production Engineering, presided. Dr. H.N. Divakar, Professor, Mohammed Ismail, Associate Professor and B.M. Latha, Assistant Professor of the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering  were the Coordinators of this workshop.
