Autism awareness walkathon held

Mysuru: An autism awareness walkathon promoting awareness, acceptance and inclusion was held in city on Sunday. The walkathon, which attracted enthusiastic participation from community members, commenced from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple  near Palace North Gate and culminated at University of Mysore’s Oval Grounds symbolising a united step towards building a more inclusive society.

The event brought together citizens, volunteers and advocates, who emphasised the need to better understanding and support individuals on the autism spectrum.

Addressing the gathering, Shubha Urs of Mysuru Book Clubs, Kishore Biddappa of Eshwar Vidyalaya and Rtn. Bopanna highlighted the importance of empathy, early intervention and equal opportunities for neurodivergent individuals.

They stressed that inclusion began with awareness which must extend into education, employment and everyday social interactions.

The initiative was spearheaded by Devdan Foundation’s Kotera Dilip Devaiah & Ballachanda Dhanya Uthappa, Paadha Trust’s Sangeetha with support extended from Rotary E-Club Mysore, Project Reach Out Mysore.

A key highlight of the walkathon was its focus on employment opportunities for neurodivergent individuals.

The event showcased how, with proper training and nurturing, individuals with special needs can become capable and productive members of the workforce.

Devdan Foundation was recognised for its dedicated work in creating job opportunities and empowering special needs individuals in and around Mysuru.
