Mysore/Mysuru: Karnataka Rajya Hindulida (Backward Classes) and Ati Hindulida Vargagala (Most Backward Classes) Jagruta Vedikes have demanded reservation in education and jobs based on numerical strength of their population.

The two Vedikes held a joint meeting (round table conference) at Jaladarshini Guest House here yesterday, during which three resolutions were passed in this regard.

Addressing the meeting, Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike President K.S. Shivaramu said that the reservation announced by the Centre for the Economically weaker Sections (EWS) has given rise to a lot of confusions and controversies.

Alleging that the Centre was out to subvert the Constitutional aspirations by unequal reservation quota, he maintained that the Government was also attempting to further divide the society in terms of inequality and financial condition.

Urging for scrapping of General category quota, Shivaramu contended that stipulation of quota depending upon the numerical strength of Backward Classes will help in rendering social justice.

Welcoming the State Government’s decision to hike reservation for SC and ST communities, he said that OBCs too must get 27 percent reservation quota.

Former Mayor R. Ananthu wondered why Backward Classes had failed in launching a massive movement in protest against the grave injustice being rendered to them in reservation.

Calling upon the Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes to understand the flaws in reservation policy and quota, he wanted the deprived and oppressed sections to unite for making Opposition leader Siddharamaiah as the Chief Minister in next year’s Assembly polls. He warned that otherwise, Backward Classes may face serious challenges in the coming days.

The three resolutions passed were: Stipulation of reservation quota based on numerical strength of Backward Classes, continuance of the suspended scholarship for SC/ST and OBC students and to support only the political force which will genuinely take up the cause of SC/STs and OBCs.

The meeting also decided to stage a massive demonstration in front of the DC’s Office on Dec. 9, in protest against discontinuance of student scholarship for SC/ST and OBC communities.

MLC Dr. D. Thimmaiah, former Corporator D. Nagabhushan, SDPI Vice-President Puttananjaiah, Karnataka Pradesha Kurubara Sangha President B. Subramanya, leaders of different communities — Hinkal Prakash, N.R. Nagesh, Srinivas, Sandesh, H.S. Prakash, Yogesh Uppar, Hinkal Uday, Chaya, Mahendra Kaginele, S.R. Ravi and others were present.
