Badminton Championship concludes

Mysuru: The valedictory of seven-day Karnataka State-level Badminton Championship, organised under the joint aegis of Karnataka Badminton Association and Mysore District Badminton Association, was held at Health City Badminton Court in Kanakadasanagar here on Thursday.

The prizes were distributed to winners of the tournaments played under the categories of Under-15 and Under-17, that saw the participation of over 600 players from different parts of Karnataka. Over 16 players, who had represented India in the Badminton Championship held at China also played in this Championship. Dr. Usha Hegde, the mountaineer who had climbed Mt. Everest recently, had kick-started the tournament, along with DIGP (Southern Range) Dr. M.B. Boralingaiah.

S.V. Gowdappa, President of Elder Citizens Council, Mysuru, who was the chief guest for the valedictory ceremony,  distributed the prizes.

Shyam Bindiganavile won the final match against Anirudh Reddy Challappi in Boys Singles U-15 category and Shyna Manimuthtu won the finals against Aikya Shetty of Bengaluru in Girls Singles U-15 category.

In U-15 Boys Doubles category, the pair of S. Harshavardhan of Bengaluru and Sathvik S. Prabhu of Dakshina Kannada defeated Piyush Tripathi and Shyam Bindiganavile pair, to lift the trophy in the final match of the tournament.

Accordingly, in U-15 Girls Doubles category, the pair of Disha Ravi Bhat and Tanvi Munoth from Bengaluru lost to Nidhi Atmaram and Selva Samrudhdhi pair, also from Bengaluru.

In U- 15 Mixed Doubles, Mehul Manav Arulmurugan and Disha Ravibhat pair won against C. Vihan and Tanvi Munoth.

In the U-17 Boys Singles category, S. Nischal of Bengaluru won against Hardik Divyansh of Mysuru. In the girls category, Shyna Manimuthu won against Diya Bheemaiah of Mysuru.

In U-17 Boys Doubles category, S. Pavan and S. Puneeth of Shivamogga lost to Amith Raj and Hardik Divyamsh of Mysuru.

In U-17 Girls Doubles, Kalandika Arunkumar and Neha Krupesh of Bengaluru lost to Aditi Deepak Raj and B.V. Vrudhdhi Ponnamma of Bengaluru.

In Mixed Doubles, Dhyan Santosh and Disha Santosh from Bengaluru lost to Amitraj and Disha Bheemaiah.

Karnataka Badminton Association President Manoj Kumar G. Hosapetimath, Secretary P. Rajesh, Executive Committee Member S.G. Prabhu, Badminton Development Committee President Vishwas, Mysore District Badminton Association Executive Committee Member Jyothi, University of Mysore’s Department of Physical Education (DPE) Director Dr. C. Venkatesh, Nehru Yuva Kendra Regional Director (retd.) M.N. Nataraj, Kuvempunagar Police Station Inspector Arun and others were present.
