BAI celebrates May Day, fetes construction workers

Mysore/Mysuru: The Builders’ Association of India (BAI), Mysore Centre, had organised a grand May Day celebration with over 650 construction workers on May 1 at Mahajana’s College Grounds.

Nagaraj V. Bairy, Chairman of BAI Mysore Centre, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the uniqueness of this year’s celebration, which featured a mega medical camp for more than 20 ailments.

In addition, there were gifts for workers, and a day full of sports and entertainment. The celebrations were inaugurated by film actress Bhavya. Rekha Yoganarasimha, President of Spoorthi, the ladies’ wing of BAI, briefed the construction workers on the activities of Spoorthi and urged them to utilise the health check-up camps and training programmes.

Chief guest Naziya Sultana, Assistant Labour Commissioner,

Mysuru Division, spoke about various schemes available for workers. M.A. Thomas, an international master athlete and gold medal winner, inaugurated the sports events. He applauded the work done by BAI for such an event.

Shanthi Bhardwaj, Hon. Secretary of Spoorthi, proposed a vote of thanks.

Following this, many sports events were conducted and later a valedictory function was also held. The guests were actor Nagabhushana and singer Divya Ramachandra, who lauded BAI for identifying and awarding artisans, encouraging working colleagues by organising sports events and conducting health camps.

Both the stars sang songs and performed mimicry.

A total of 12 artisans who had done meritorious work in the field of the construction industry were honoured.

N.P. Vishwanath, Managing Trustee of Mysuru Builders Charitable Trust (MBCT), urged the working class to utilise the benefits of medical treatment and medicines.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of various sports events organised on the occasion.

A health camp was arranged and more than 400 workers utilised the facility.

Hon. Secretary K.S. Balaji proposed a vote of thanks.
