Bal Bhavan hosts 15-day Summer Camp for kids

Mysuru:  Nearly 105 children in the age group of 7-16 years registered for the 15-day free summer camp, organised by the District Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Bannimantap. In all, 120 applications were received. The camp, which began on Apr.26, will end on May 10.

The children in the camp will be taught painting, drawing, craft, awareness about fire hazards and other creative activities. They will also be taken on a visit to Nandini Milk Dairy where they will be shown how milk is collected, produced and packaged. They will also visit the Mysuru Zoo to study and watch the animals.

Speaking after inaugurating the camp, Dr. Diwakar, Deputy Director, Women and Child Welfare Department and Secretary, Bal Bhavan, said: “The economically backward and poorer sections of the children are selected for the camp and they are given free training. The aim is to unearth the hidden talents in the children and to create an atmosphere for them where they can gain confidence to face the world.”

He also sang a Kannada song ‘Kumara Santhege Hoda…’ which the children picked up and  sang with him.

Ventriloquist and magician Suma Rajkumar entertained the children and said that they should one day become talented artistes and sign autographs.

Bal Bhavan’s Krishnamurthy, the Principal organiser of the camp, said that it was the 27th year that the camp was being organised and if the children are interested they can still come and register for the camp.
