Basava Jayanti: Publicity vehicles flagged off

Mysore/Mysuru: The two-day Basava Jayanti celebrations, focusing on creating awareness on Basava Tatva and to strengthen the unity in society will be held on Apr. 19 and 20 at Kalamandira in city. This year, the celebrations will be held under the theme Namma Basavanna                                          Samskrutika Nayaka.’

As part of the publicity event, ahead of the celebrations, two publicity vehicles were flagged off by Kuderu Mutt Junior Pontiff Immadi Gurulinga Swamiji in front of Basaveshwara statue in city on Sunday in the presence of Mysuru City Publicity Committee President Jeevadhara Girish and Basava Jayanthi Committee President M. Chandrashekar.

Speaking on the occasion, Girish said Basavanna’s message was not restricted to one community but was an inspiration to the entire society.

“Not restricting Basava Jayanthi to mere celebrations, various programmes will be held to ensure Basava principles reaches every household in the city this year,” he added.

Basava Jayanthi Committee President. Chandrashekar, who too spoke, said that it was important that the youths are educated about the principles of Basavanna adding that this year the celebrations will include members from various sections of the society.

Committee General Secretary A.P. Veerupaksha, Procession Committee President K.V. Mallesh, former President Kanya Shivamurthy, Convenor Chikkahalli Devaraju and Treasurer Jayashankar explained about this year’s celebrations.

Publicity Committee Vice-President C.G. Muthanna, Pushpalatha, B.K. Nagaraju, Sharath Puttabuddhi, Jagadish Linganna and others were present on the occasion.
