Mysore/Mysuru: A ‘Bhagiratha Vijaya’ yakshagana open-air performance was held at Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple in K. Hemmanahalli, located on Gaddige Road (Bogadi 9th km) on the outskirts of the city, on Sept. 5.

Hundreds of yakshagana enthusiasts enjoyed the performance, which began at 6 pm and concluded at 11 pm.

Amidst light rain outside, the vibrant sounds of chende, maddale and bhagavatike inside, along with the nine emotions (navarasas) portrayed by the yakshagana characters, captivated                                                      the audience.

The story of the yakshagana revolved around Emperor Sagara’s Ashwamedha Yaga, the theft of the sacrificial horse, and the untimely death of his sons who went in search of it.

Sagara’s grandson, Bhagiratha, performed penance to please Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara, ultimately bringing the sacred Ganga River from the heavens to Earth.

The performance was presented by the renowned Sri Mahaganapathi Yakshagana Mandali from Nidle, Dharmasthala, featuring popular artistes from Sri Dharmasthala and Kateel Hanumagiri in Dakshina Kannada. Organisers M. Ganesh and Anantavardhana were present on the occasion.
