Bhava Kusuma: Unique Sugama Sangeetha programme by doctors on Sept. 30

In a unique musical extravaganza organised under the aegis of Sugama Sangeetha Academy Trust, Mysuru, a galaxy of renowned doctors of Karnataka are going to regale the art-lovers by their soulful music. The programme is conceived, organised and the doctors are trained by H.R. Leelavathi, an internationally known  exponent of Sugama Sangeetha  and a  household name in Mysuru.

Recipient of innumerable awards, honours and titles, Leelavathi received India’s most prestigious award from Sangeetha Nataka Academy for Sugama Sangeetha in 2022.

Sugama Sangeetha Academy was founded 38 years ago on 19.5.1985 by husband and wife singing duo H.R. Leelavathi and S.G. Raghuram (late). They represented India as cultural ambassadors in singing in America. They have trained innumerable singers who in turn have branched off to establish their own institutions and thus the talent has spread across length and breadth of Mysuru and other places.

The Academy has strived to enrich the cultural ambience of Mysuru by holding four regular Sugama Sangeetha concerts every year and other related events.

Sugama Sangeetha Academy under the title ‘Bhava Kusuma’ has scheduled a musical evening on Sept. 30 where doctors will showcase their singing prowess.

The programme will be held at Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mysore K. Vasudevacharya Bhavana on JLB Road at 6 pm. The script and presentation of the programme is by Sukumar S. Raghuram, who is an Engineer.

Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy, Industrialist & Promoter of Art, T.R. Harish, President, Sugama Sangeetha Academy Trust, will be the chief guests.

Performing Doctors

Dr. Somnath Vasudeva, MD, DM, is the head of The Institute of Neurosciences.  He has been trained in playing violin in Karnatak music and is passionate about music of genre. He sings regularly in various fora in city.

Dr. Seethalakshmy, Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist, is very passionate about music and singing. She performs in known groups like Geeth Gaatha Chal, Geen Sangam and Arabhi.

Dr Sushma Krishnamurthy, one of the few female General Surgeons in Mysuru, is an accomplished singer, having done Senior Karnatak music for more than three decades. She is into Sugama Sangeetha giving numerous stage performances. A graded AIR and Doordarshan artiste, she in the student of H.R. Leelavathi.

Dr. A. Jayaram, leading Dental Surgeon, is serving in local and State-level Dentists Association as President. He is a student of H.R. Leelavathi. As a past Rotarian, he was the cultural ambassador of Rotary West.

Dr. N. Kuldeep, a Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, has a great passion for Kannada Bhavageethe. He has obtained Diploma in Sugama Sangeetha from Gangubai Hangal Music & Performing Arts University, Mysuru. He has founded an organisation by name “Arabhi” for promoting music. He is learning Bharatanatyam from Vid. Sridhar Jain.

Dr. Ravikumar,  a Consultant Surgical Pathologist at Ravi Diagnostic Lab and various hospitals in Mysuru, has music as his hobby. He has been part of the Geeth Gaatha Chal and HRL’s Vaidya Bhavayana programmes.

Dr. Snehashree Nirmala Kumar, a private Dental practitioner, is an Akashvani and Doordarshan Sugama Sangeetha artiste. A student of H.R. Leelavathi, she has given performances all over Karnataka and also participated in AKKA Sammelana at USA. With 15 CDs to her credit, she has received many awards also.

Dr. K. Nagendra Prasad, a Senior Family Physician, is an authorised Doctor for Central Government Employees and participating in Bhavageethe programmes since 22 years.

Dr. G.V. Bharathi, Deputy Manager (Medical), KSIC, Mysuru, has learnt Karnatak music and light music. Her hobbies are singing and reading.

Dr. J. Rashmi Rani, a Classical practitioner of Ayurveda, is a Consultant in Yoga and Naturopathy. She has learnt Karnatak, Hindustani music, and Sugama Sangeetha, written articles in newspapers                      and magazines.

Nandini Murthy, a qualified nutritionist, runs Care & Cure Clinic. She has authored three books and her hobbies are singing, drawing and ikebana.
