The book, which belongs to the non-fiction genre, spotlights the achievements of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy as a doctor, women’s rights activist and social reformer at a time when women struggled to find a place in society. Her struggles and commitment to bringing about changes in the lives of women is elaborated with facts and anecdotes. The book is well referenced and can serve as a resource on Dr. Reddy and her struggles.
It also becomes an important book while understanding the status accorded to women in the early 1900s, and appreciating their progress. Her story becomes even more poignant when seen in the background of the fact that she was born to a devadasi mother.
