Mysuru: At a time when the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam that supplies drinking water to Mysuru is only 111.24 ft full as against its maximum level of 124.80 ft and at a time when the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is asking residents to spend water cautiously, gallons of water is being wasted and no action has been taken despite a complaint.
Water is leaking from a borewell on the K.C. Layout Main Road inside a park in city since the last 13 days or so. Noticing this, Star of Mysore contacted the MCC helpline 94498-41196 and reported the issue on Oct. 6 at around 9 am.
The complaint was promptly received by the lady on the other end who promised to get the leaking borewell fixed immediately. The next day on Oct.7, after almost 24 hours, the complainant received a call from the MCC asking what the problem was. The complainant explained the issue again despite having provided all the details and the location of the leaking borewell at the time of lodging the complaint.
The caller then told the complainant that actually the lady who manned the telephone line 94498-41196 had wrongly mentioned the water leakage as “chamber leak” and the complaint has been forwarded to the department that carries out Under Ground Drainage works.
The caller from the other end told the complainant that one more complaint has to be registered as the earlier complaint (of borewell water leak) does not come under his department. The complainant was asked to modify the “chamber leak” complaint to “water leak” complaint.
On Oct. 8, the complainant again gets a call from the MCC and the caller stated that the “chamber leak” has been fixed. When the complainant insisted that it was not a chamber leak but water was leaking from a borewell since the past 13 days, the caller promised that he would personally look into the issue.
When the complainant shared the issue with another resident of K.C. Layout, he said that borewell leakages were a common sight now and the MCC should act immediately to save precious groundwater. For the record, the borewell continues to leak.
