Bunts Sangha demands Category 2a reservation

March 4, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: The Bunts community, which has a large presence in Coastal Karnataka, has demanded inclusion of the community under 2a reservation category.

Addressing a press meet here yesterday, Mysore Bunts Sangha President T. Prabhakar Shetty said that the community is classified under Category 3b. Maintaining that though Bunts community appear to be financially sound at the outset, the fact is that about 60 percent of the  community come under BPL, he noted.

Urging the Government to establish a Bunts Development Corporation just like the ones for other communities, Prabhakar Shetty said that though BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel and State Backward Classes Commission Chairman Jayaprakash Hegde belonged to the Bunts community, the much wanted Corporation is yet to be formed.

Contending that the community will be deprived of opportunities across sectors in the absence of appropriate reservation, Shetty wanted the Government to form Bunts Development Corporation at the earliest and also to bring the community, which is backward in several aspects, under 2a reservation category.

Bunts Sangha Secretary M. Nandyappa Shetty, who also spoke, said that all District Units of the Sangha will stage a demonstration demanding 2a reservation category and establishment of Bunts Development Corporation.

Mysore Bunts Sangha Charitable Trust Managing Trustee K. Ganesh Narayan Hegde, Joint Secretary Harish Alva, Treasurer P. Tukaram Rai and Joint Secretary Soumya V. Shetty were present at the press meet.
