Chunchanakatte: Though the Government is taking all efforts to prevent the second wave of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic from spreading by issuing preventive guidelines such as imposing night curfew, weekend curfew, banning all types of fairs (Jathras), limiting guests for weddings and other functions etc., a cattle fair was held on Wednesday morning at Chunchanakatte.
Thousands of people participated in the cattle fair, during which all safety guidelines of the Government was violated and social distancing had gone for a toss. The people, who had come to the fair, were not afraid of the pandemic and thronged the venue to conduct business and to purchase cattle, thus making the cattle fair venue a COVID hot spot.
Even the authorities concerned displayed their negligent attitude and did not bother to take steps to stop the fair. As on March 21, Saligrama and K.R. Nagar taluks reported a total of 124 COVID-19 positive cases and looking at the number of people participated in the cattle fair, the number of positive cases is sure to shoot up.
It was only after a few members of the public informed about the crowding at the cattle fair to the Police, the Cops arrived at the venue and sent the participants of the cattle fair back.
