Lecture on ‘Cyber Crime Threats in Real Estate’ organised by NAREDCO, Mysuru Chapter

Mysuru: In the wake of rising cyber crimes, City Crime Branch (CCB) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) S.N. Sandesh Kumar has urged real estate entrepreneurs to carefully review terms and conditions before processing financial transactions.

Speaking at a session on “Cyber Crime Threats in Real Estate” organised by the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), Mysuru Chapter, at Hotel Southern Star in city recently, ACP Sandesh Kumar cautioned realtors against sharing sensitive information.

“With advancing technology, cyber crimes have surged. Realtors must exercise caution and avoid sharing business secrets. Managers and staff should be well-informed about cyber threats. A biometric-based approval system should be implemented to prevent unauthorised fund transfers,” he advised.

Karnataka tops in cyber crimes

Karnataka has recorded the highest number of cyber crimes in the country. Between 2019 and 2024, an estimated Rs. 1,500 crore was lost to online fraud, with Rs. 1,806 crore siphoned off in 2024 alone. The Stock Investment Scam cases, which stood at 411 in 2022, have surged to 6,000 in 2024.

“The money disappears in seconds, often without victims realising it. Citizens are urged to use the Sanchar Saathi portal or call the cybercrime helpline 1930 to avoid falling prey,” ACP Sandesh Kumar added.

He attributed the rise in online fraud to a lack of awareness and advised people to download apps only from authorised platforms. “Online games initially let you win to gain your trust before draining your bank account. Fake websites, apps, advertisements and WhatsApp groups should be ignored without engagement,” he warned.
