Centre slashes LPG prices by Rs. 200 a cylinder

New Delhi: With Assembly polls in 5 States set to take place at the end of the year and the Lok Sabha polls due in less than a year, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday slashed the price of domestic LPG Cylinder by  Rs. 200. This apart, the beneficiaries covered under Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will continue to get a further subsidy of Rs. 200 a cylinder in their Bank accounts.

Following the Centre’s decision, the price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder will be reduced by Rs. 200 in all markets across the country effective from Aug. 30.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the move a ‘Raksha Bandhan’ gift to the people of the country. The Cabinet also approved 75 lakh additional Ujjwala connections. With this, the number of beneficiaries under the scheme will rise to 10.35 crore.
