Mysore/Mysuru: Faced with opposition by elected representatives over CESC’s action of disconnecting power of power bill defaulters under its jurisdiction, the State-owned Electricity Company has come forward to convince the elected representatives on recovery of pending power bill dues which has run up to hundreds of crores of rupees.

Defending the CESC officials action of cutting off power at Alambur village in Nanjangud taluk for non-payment of bills, CESC Managing Director Jayavibhavaswamy said that CESC officials and Engineers have been asked to meet the Legislator and other elected representatives of their respective area and apprise them of facts and also seek their co-operation for recovery of pending dues.

Pointing out that the Union Energy Minister recently held a meeting of power officials, during which the Minister gave some instructions on recovery of dues, Jayavibhavaswamy said that it is important to note that the Union Government has directed banks not to advance loans for loss-making power companies, while also asking the power companies to clear their Bank loans only through recovery of  pending dues. Maintaining that recovery of pending power bill dues is of utmost importance for CESC to come out of the red, Jayavibhavaswamy said that power disconnection seems to be the only way for recovery and as such, the elected representatives must co-operate with CESC in this regard.

Regretting incidents of verbal abuse and attacks on CESC staff when they go for power bill dues recovery, he said that it has become inevitable for CESC to go ahead with its recovery drive as per norms.

Asking the people to refrain from attacking and abusing CESC staff, he said that such acts amount to obstruction to duty of Government servants, which attracts legal action.

He warned that legal action will be initiated against those obstructing CESC staff from performing their duties.
