Champions of ‘Melange’ State-level Media Fest

Mysuru: Melange’19, a one-day State-level Media Fest was organised by the Department of Communication and Journalism, St. Joseph’s First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, recently. The Fest was inaugurated by Avinash S. Shatamarshan, a popular theatre artiste, director, writer and actor in Kannada Films.

Speaking on the occasion, Avinash encouraged the students to cultivate a habit of constant reading, spending quality time with people around and introspection. He opined that these qualities would take them a long way in life.

Senior academician, Prof. R.N. Padmanabha, after releasing the inaugural issue of the newsletter brought out by the Department, lauded the initiative. He stressed on the need for introspection on three major aspects: “How much did I love? How much did I laugh? and how much did I make a difference with respect to knowledge and my surroundings?” He also enlightened the students by highlighting the quotes of Swami Vivekananda and Eliot.

Secretary and Correspondent, MDES, Rev. Fr. Vijaykumar, who presided over the function, advised the students to carry out their vocation with complete conviction. He encouraged them to focus on their goals without getting distracted.

Melange’19 comprised of events like Hermes (meme creation), Iris (photography), Artemis (Live NEWS Reporting), Calliope (Indian Dance), Thalia (Mad Ads), Athena (Quiz) and Democritus (Panel Discussion).

Over 100 UG students from various colleges from Mandya, Hassan and Mysuru actively took part in the events.

Christ Bags Overall Championship: Students of Christ First Grade College emerged champions of the Fest by making a clean sweep with winning prizes in Memes, Photography, Dance, Mad Ads and Panel Discussion competitions.

Senior Academician Dr. K.J Joseph; St. Joseph’s Institution CEO Prof. Mani C. Mathew, Principal and Head, Department of Communication and Journalism, St. Joseph’s College, Dr. V. Niveditha were present.

Mad Ads: Winner – Smrutimol Devasia & Team, Christ College; 1st Runner-up: Kshama and Team, Maharaja’s College; 2nd Runner-up: Arun Kumar & Team, Government First Grade College, Hassan.

Panel Discussion: Winner – Pallavi & Team, Maharaja’s College; 1st Runner-up: V. Kruthi& Team, Christ College; 2nd Runner-up: Shivaprasad & Team, Maharaja’s College.

Meme: Winner – B.K. Rachana & Team, MMK&SDM; 1st Runner-up: J. Arun Kumar & Team, Christ College; 2nd Runner-up: Prateeksha Alva & Team, Government First Grade College, Hassan.

Quiz: Winner – G.N. Tejus & Team, Hindusthan College; 1st Runner-up: Achuuth Karthick & Team, Sapient College; 2nd Runner-up: A.R. Ridah & Team, MICA.
