Chinnara Mela: 300 applications sold out in 90 minutes

Mysore/Mysuru:  Applications for Chinnara Mela, the annual summer camp of Rangayana in Kalamandira premises on Hunsur Road in city, were distributed today morning.

A total of 300 applications were sold out in a short span of 90 minutes, with the parents waiting in queue from yesterday midnight.

The annual summer camp of the theatre repertory is popular among the kids who are introduced to various art forms including the nuances of theatre during the close to one-month long camp that will begin on Apr. 12.

As per the tentative schedule, the camp will be held till May 7.

To avoid any discrepancies, the parents themselves had made a list of those waiting in queue, along with marking their names against serial number, Aadhaar number and the name of their respective wards, before allowing them in a batch of 10 each to the counter in the premises of Bhoomigeetha auditorium, where the applications were handed over.

The application fee is Rs. 100 and camp fee is Rs. 3,000 per head. Applications were distributed from 10 am and the process of distribution was completed in one-and-a-half hours.

As many as 40 Resource Persons will be conducting the camp, that includes senior artistes of the repertory who will be assisted by the students of Ranga Shikshana course.

The camp attendees will be split into 10 groups according to their age group.

Umesh from Hassan will be handling the class related to art, while the others will be handling activities related to drama, acting and other skills.

Some parents disappointed

Some of the parents who were disappointed over not getting the applications returned voluntarily, while some others made last minute efforts till they were convinced by Deputy Director of Rangayana Nirmala Matapathi about the inability to accommodate more than the prescribed numbers due to paucity of space and time.
