‘Cholera Comrade’ constituted to control epidemic diseases

February 26, 2018

Mysuru: With winter receding and making way for summer to set in, contagious diseases are common especially with people drinking contaminated water.

Symptoms like vomiting and diarrhoea are common among people leading to diseases like cholera, dysentery and typhoid.

Cholera is said to have taken the lives of two persons in a few districts of the State. In that context, the District Wing of Department of Health and Family Welfare has taken preventive steps to tackle the situation effectively.

Briefing to a section of the press yesterday, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. B. Basavaraj said that no case of a epidemic disease has been reported in the district and added that as a precaution a ‘Cholera Comrade’ team has been constituted to be ready to handle any emergency.

He further said that the team would have a doctor, two special nurses, two nurses, one woman Health Assistant and one laboratory technician along with a vehicle and a driver. Continuing, Dr. Basavaraj said that all hospitals in the district have been instructed to keep adequate stock of medicines especially oral rehydration salt and drip sets to administer intravenous fluids. He further said that overhead water tanks in the area would be cleaned the moment any case of cholera was suspected.
