November 18, 2023

‘A pivotal step towards enhancing Mysuru’s economic prospects and positioning it as Bengaluru’s sister city’

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore Airport Director J.R. Anoop has underscored the urgent necessity of expanding the Mysore Airport runway to facilitate the operation of long-haul flights, ultimately boosting tourism, trade, commerce and various economic development activities.

He was speaking at the EXCON Roadshow 2023 on the ‘Role of Infrastructure and Economy for Vision@2047, Sustainable Infrastructure’ organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru Zone, at Hotel Southern Star in city last evening. The event demonstrated a strong commitment to Karnataka’s transformative development under the CII theme “Towards a Competitive and Sustainable Karnataka@100: Growth, Inclusiveness, Globalisation, Building Trust.”

The Airport Director’s address highlighted the role of infrastructure in sustainable development and economic growth, focusing on the importance of air connectivity.

He mentioned that the infrastructure development and runway expansion at the Mysore Airport had faced delays due to the unavailability of land requested by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

He pointed out that the State Government’s decision to develop Mysuru as a sister city of Bengaluru underscored the urgency of providing the required land for the Airport expansion. He stressed that improved air connectivity is essential to attract substantial investments for the city’s development.

Anoop specified that an additional 240 acres of land is needed for the Airport and the runway expansion to 2,750 metres is crucial to facilitate the operation of long-haul flights. This expansion, he argued, is a pivotal step toward enhancing Mysuru’s economic prospects and positioning it as a key player in regional development.
