Mysuru: Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology (BHIO) and ClearMedi Radiant Hospital in city had organised separate events to observe World Cancer Day   in city recently.

Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology had organised a torchlight parade in city to spread  awareness about cancer causes, early detection and survivorship. About 600 students of Nursing Colleges took out a torchlight march which was flagged off from J.K. Grounds conveying the message on the ill-effects of tobacco usage in any form.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath said, “As we observe World Cancer Day, it is important that the young generation realises the harmful effects of tobacco and actively participate in initiative like this to bring about a positive and healthy change in the society.”

Dr. B.S. Ajaikumar, Chairman, HCG and BHIO, said that it was important to sensitise citizens from different sections of the society on the rising incidences of cancer, primarily because of tobacco usage which could be controlled with the right measures.

Bhagya Ajaikumar, Director, BHIO, said that through this awareness march they would urge more and more people to come forward and understand the real root cause of cancer from tobacco, which not only drains physically but also financially.

ClearMedi Radiant Hospital at Vijayanagar 3rd Stage had  organised a Walkathon to create awareness about cancer.

Dr. C.B. Avinash, HoD of Oncology, ClearMedi Radiant Hospital, Dr. A. Venugopal, Medical Director, N.T. Aruna Devi, Principal, BGS College of Nursing, C.K. Mahendra, President of Mysore District Journalists’ Association, A.R. Manjunath, Facility Director, Dr. Rajesh, Principal, Sree Nataraja School of Nursing and others were present during the occasion.
