Mysuru: Responding to a video of the incident uploaded on Star of Mysore social media handles last evening, the office of the Mysuru City Police Commissioner said necessary action would be taken.

“We will take necessary action on this,” said the city Police in response.

According to eyewitnesses, students from nearby colleges who were eating pani-puri at the time were left shocked and terrified after witnessing the youth allegedly wielding the machete.

Residents said the stretch has repeatedly witnessed violent clashes involving groups of young men, leaving school and college students, particularly girls, feeling unsafe.

The areas around the City Bus Stand, Lansdowne Building, Jaganmohan Palace Circle, Maharaja Pre-University College, the Oval Grounds, the rear road of Maharani PU College and Ramavilas Road have reportedly been the scene of frequent clashes involving student groups and local troublemakers.

Residents claimed that, on some occasions, gangs have even arrived in autorickshaws to join the fights. They have urged the Police to launch a crackdown on such miscreants and prevent groups from assembling near educational institutions.

They called for stricter surveillance and timely intervention to prevent any untoward incidents.
