City Police Chief inaugurates Youth Club at Mysuru Zoo

Mysore/Mysuru: City Police Commissioner B. Ramesh inaugurated the 31st Mysuru Zoo Youth Club for the year 2023, at a programme organised at Amphitheatre in the Zoo premises here this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that it is good to note that the number of environment and wildlife enthusiasts is increasing by the day in the context of global threat to our environment. Pointing out that at the same time, public concerns about nature conservation too is on the rise with climate change causing havoc across the globe, the City Police Chief stressed that environment education is vital for climate change management.

Lauding the Mysuru Zoo for forming such Youth Club, he said that focusing on environment, ecology and nature issues is the need of the hour as humanity is facing a lot of challenges due to natural calamities, ecological disasters and the like. He called upon everyone to have concerns and contribute for protecting our nature.

Zoo Executive Director Mahesh Kumar, Deputy Director Roshni and others were present.

About Youth Club

Youth Club is a unique educational programme of Mysuru Zoo for students aged between 12 and 18 years. Only 60 students will be selected based on first-come-first-served basis. The Zoo has successfully organised Youth Club activity for the last 30 years since its initiation and this year is the 31st.

The participants will get exposure on basics of biodiversity, values of wildlife, conservation of wild animals, animal behaviour and captive management of wild animals at Zoo. There will be both theory and practical classes on subjects covering various aspects of these topics.

The classes will be held in the morning (8.30 am to 1.30 pm) on every Sunday in the year, during which subject experts and resource persons will deliver lectures and educate the Club members on a variety of topics concerning wildlife.
